In celebration of the Medical
Center’s 100th anniversary, the staff
at Alice Hyde Women’s Health held
a party in honor of Myles Jaxson
Rousseau, the 100th baby born at
the Medical Center in 2013. Noel
Varghese, DO, OB-GYN, delivered
Myles on May 2. Parents Joanne
and Jeffrey Rousseau were presented
with a gift basket and a certificate.
Auxiliary
In 2013, the Alice Hyde Medical Center Auxiliary presented the Medical
Center Board of Directors with a plaque in honor of the Medical Center’s
100th anniversary, along with a check for $40,000. The Auxiliary’s generous
donation is to be used toward the purchase of a portable ultrasound unit for
the Emergency Department. The images captured by a portable ultrasound
unit play a pivotal role in assisting emergency medical professionals to
examine organs in real time. When faced with an emergency situation, the
ability to make a rapid assessment of a trauma patient’s condition can save
precious minutes and even a life.
The Auxiliary, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for
the hospital, contributes significantly to the growth and enhancement
of our community Medical Center. Our auxilians donate their time and
talents to organize fundraisers every year for the purchase of state-of-the-
art equipment and to support programs and services. The Auxiliary also
dedicates funds to award scholarships to students who are pursuing higher
education in the medical field.
The Auxiliary’s rich heritage of generosity began in 1911, when a group
of women, joined by the hospital’s first president, John Badger, gathered to
organize a ladies’ auxiliary. This was the first day of a century-long relationship
between the Auxiliary, the hospital and the community. The first auxilians
were instrumental in the initial building of the hospital, and to this day, their
successors contribute to the success and expansion of the Medical Center.
