Celebrating 100 years
Alice Hyde Medical Center celebrated its 100th anniversary on Sept. 15, 2013.
When Alice Hyde Memorial Hospital was formally opened on Sept. 15,
1913, it was the fulfillment of a community dream dating to 1905, when the
Malone Hospital Association was incorporated to seek out means of providing
hospital care for the people in this area. From that day on, our record has been
one of community service beyond measure.
On Sept. 15, 2013, we celebrated the centennial with a special block party
on the Medical Center campus. The event featured free health screenings,
educational materials, a historical display, food and live music by SoulShine.
The party also included many activities for children, including Mr. Yuk magic
shows to teach young kids about poison prevention, and a commemorative
address by Alice Hyde Medical Center President and CEO Douglas DiVello
and Auxiliary President Marilyn Johnston.
Over the past 100 years, Alice Hyde Medical Center has provided high-
quality, low-cost health care to more than 55,000 residents in the North
Country.
Most Wired
Alice Hyde Medical Center was recognized as one of the
nation’s Most Wired hospitals for 2013 by
Hospitals &
Health Networks
magazine. This is a distinctive honor that
we are very proud of. With approximately 4,000 acute
care hospitals across the nation, to be one of 289 facilities
to receive this designation is outstanding.
Hospitals &
Health Networks
magazine has been awarding the status
for 15 years based upon the Most Wired survey, which
focuses on four main areas: infrastructure, business and
administrative management, clinical quality and safety
(inpatient/outpatient hospital), and clinical integration
(ambulatory/physician/patient/community). The
Medical Center has been working diligently on
achieving meaningful use standards through the
Health Information Technology for Economic and
Clinical Health Act of 2009 (HITECH Act), and all
of our efforts are paying off. Our implementation
of meaningful use initiatives enable us to improve
delivery of safe, efficient, high-quality patient care.
